'Souvenirs of a Disaster' | Installation
'Souvenirs of a Disaster' is an installation that reflects on the Deepwater Horizon oil rig disaster which spewed oil into the Gulf of Mexico in 2010. It consists of eight plywood cabinets each measuring 21cm x 21cm x 10cm. On the doors of the cabinets are casein ivory panels which bear images that were current as the disaster unfolded. The panels are engraved using the traditional technique of 'scrimshaw' which was used by 19th century whalers. The cabinets contain assemblages of objet trouvé.
